Other news:
The Indiana State Fair has control of our track, but
that will end this coming weekend. On Tuesday evening,
August 21st, at 6:00pm we need a work crew to
take up the protective wood timbers and re-open our
track. All volunteer help will be appreciated. Bring
work gloves.
We have our yearly opportunity to submit RCPs (Rule
Change Proposal) for consideration. Per the national
and regional schedule, these must be submitted for
consideration to the Region 4 Board by September 15th.
Therefore, because our last opportunity as a club to
review and consider them will be on September 2nd
(Sunday club race), please have them submitted to our
club secretary, Tiffany Spillers, by the end of the day
on September 1st. The official form is on
the QMA website. If you have a good idea and need help
pulling it together, contact Rick Thomason
rethomason@aol.com
Speaking of politics, its time for national, regional
and club elections. If you want to run for national or
regional office, your resume must be submitted to the
National QMA office and a copy to the National Secretary
by October 15th. You must also notify the
Regional director (Dave Mikels) if you are running for a
regional office. On the local level, we will have
details and an election committee in place for our Labor
Day weekend races. If you dont like the way things are
run, this is your chance. Complaining is not
productive. Put yourself in position to do something
about it.
Track Now Open For Practice:
The 2007 Mini Indy racing season is almost here. We
had a great turn out on Saturday, March 17th, to fix
and clean up the track and tower. Everything looks
great and the track is now open for practice. If you
are a new member this year and do not yet have a key
to the track gate, contact Tiffany Spillers
spillers2@sbcglobal.net and she will quickly
mail one to you. The spirit of volunteering and
helping each other is one of the greatest
experiences of this sport, and it is alive and well
at Mini Indy. This is the beginning of a great year.

NOVICE DAY:
Mini Indy's 2007 racing year will start on Saturday,
March 31st, 10:00 AM with our annual Novice Day. Anyone
interested in Quarter Midget racing is welcome to
attend and find out what all the excitement is
about. Our novice trainers and other experienced
club members will be available to help kids 5 years
old and up to experience the thrill of driving a
race car. This is the day to get all of your
questions answered. If you already have purchased a
race car, we will do the required safety checks and
try to help answer your maintenance and set up
questions. This day is devoted to new members and
the kids.
ROAD CONSTRUCTION:
For anyone approaching our track from the south via
Interstate 70, there will be major road construction
throughout the racing season. Most of the entry and
exit ramps on I-70 from downtown extending east to
I-465 will be closed. There are also limits on
large trucks and trucks pulling trailers. Leave
plenty of time and use alternate routes. Visit
http://www.in.gov/dot/div/projects/i70/ for up
to date information.
RACE DAY
FUELING PROCEDURE:
This year, Mini Indy will use 87 octane gas from the
BP station at the corner of East 38th Street and
Fall Creek Parkway (just outside the southeast
corner of the Fairgrounds) as the designated fuel
for our races. Testing will be done during the race
days.
VISITOR POLICY:
Mini Indy always welcomes any QMA member in good
standing to our races. Because of insurance and
security, any QMA member visitor who wishes to
practice at Mini Indy must do so with a Mini Indy
member present and acknowledging responsibility for
that visitor. A QMA member of another track may
purchase an associate membership to Mini Indy for
$75.00, which has the privilege of a key to the
track and unsupervised practice.
TUESDAY NOVICE
PRACTICE: Every
Tuesday evening from 5:00pm to 7:00pm is dedicated
exclusively for the training and practice of our
novice drivers. Generally, our novice director,
Larry Cleveland, will be available during this time
to help our young drivers and to answer handler
questions.
Important Notice:
Club and Board Meetings Scheduled
There will be a
Mini Indy Board of Director's meeting on Thursday
evening, January 25th, at 7:00pm at the offices of Rick
Thomason, 6990 Hillsdale Ct., Indianapolis. If you need
directions please call 913-2160.
The next general membership Mini Indy club meeting will
be on Saturday, February 3rd, at 10:00am at Celebrations
Banquet Facility. We will have our 2007 racing schedule
and finalize our volunteer positions. We still need a
great deal of help in many areas
Important Notice:
Club Meeting
Mini Indy will also have a
club meeting on Sunday, January 7th, at 1:00pm. This
will be at Celebrations Banquet Facility. It is
located less than a quarter mile north of Rockville
Road (US 36), about 2 miles west of I-465. We will
discuss our upcoming season, our racing formats and
the national Rule Change Proposals (RCP's). Renew
your memberships, if you haven't done this yet, and
tell us where you prefer to be a volunteer in 2007.
IT'S TIME TO START THINKING ABOUT
RACING, AGAIN.

Just a few things
to think about during our off season:
Per the 2006 National Short Sheet, following are
rule changes effective January 1st, 2007:
- All QMA restrictor plates will have the QMA logo
on them
- All safety belts will be new or recertified every
2 years with an SFI 16.1 rating
- Steel fuel tanks will not be allowed

Mini Indy will remove the
protective wood timbers from around the track wall and
do any necessary clean up to reopen the track for
practice and racing on Wednesday evening, August 23rd,
at 6:00pm. A pair of work gloves and a little sweat are
all that is required. The more that help, the less time
it will take.

It is RCP (rule change
proposal) time. As a member of the National QMA
organization, we can follow the required procedures
going through our local and regional Boards, and
possibly have a proposal for a new or changed rule on
the ballot next year for consideration by the National
membership. If you have a request, please fill out the
required form (available on the www.quartermidgets.org
website). If you have an idea for a rule change that
needs to be discussed or help with the form, please
contact Rick Thomason @ 317-414-6703. We need to have
requests from our club submitted to the Regional Board
for review by August 26th

Mini Indy Looses
Jr Novice Driver Bryce Bear
Bryce Bear competed June 24 in the
Indianapolis Speedrome's annual Big Wheel race
Bryce Bear was just 5, but already
eager about continuing his family's racing
tradition.
The Avon boy was a regular weekend presence at the
Indianapolis Speedrome, cheering on drivers Fred
Bear Jr., his father, and big brother Quinnton.
Bryce, known as "Little Freddie," also he competed
June 24 in the speedrome's annual Big Wheel race,
finishing third. Bryce died Thursday while riding a
motorized scooter on Thistle Court in his
neighborhood near Ind. 267 in Avon. But friends and
family on Friday were remembering his spirit, not
the tragic accident. "We mourn the loss," said Joel
Cohen, a lifelong friend of the family and the owner
of the Speedrome, located near Brookville Road and
Kitley Avenue on the Eastside. "He'll be an angel
for a lot of people. This boy was full of life."
Bryce's grandfather, Fred Bear Sr. of indianapolis,
said Bryce liked Big Wheel and also was getting
involved in quarter-midget racing. "He enjoys
everything," Fred Bear Sr. said. "He's a little
daredevil. Nothing scares him."
Bryce is survived by his parents,
Tina and Fred, and two siblings -- his older
brother, Quinnton, and Addison, a younger sister.
His showing will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at Grace
Point Church of the Nazarene, 10951 E. County Road
100 South, Indianapolis. Funeral services will be at
10 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
A memorial fund has been set up in his memory at

Robbie Stanley
Memorial Update!
Despite a great deal
of rain and even a complete power failure, Mini Indy was
able to complete the Robbie Stanley Memorial race on
Sunday. Even though most of the Region 4 racing events
were canceled this past weekend, with the efforts of
many people, we were able to keep most of the Heavy AA
racers at the track and complete the Robbie Stanley
elimination and feature races as a Mini Indy club
event. Congratulations to Cole Duncan, our 2006 Robbie
Stanley Memorial feature winner, and to all of the
racers that competed this year. Thank You's go for the
efforts of Tiffany Spillers, who coordinated the event,
Jim Boyles, who spearheaded the publicity effort and
printed the great programs and posters, Kathy Campbell,
the talented artist that created a special keepsake for
the Stanley family, Bryan Clauson, a rising young star
whose presence meant a lot to the young kids and Cameron
Dodson, another young star and former Memorial winner
whose heartfelt introduction was special to all of us.
A special thank you is for the Mike McGhee family, who
sponsored the race and worked very hard to make Mother's
Day a special day for the Stanley family.

Briggs WF's Make
Exciting Debut!
It was cool and dark but, the engines where hot and
fast!
Nick Abbott, Taylore Floreancig, Katrina Matthews and
Shane Williamson took the track with there new engines
for there first laps together. It was quite a sight,
with a crowd handlers and drivers watching.
The engines had a unique sound and were very fast, all
the drivers did an impressive job of handling the new
horsepower. Veteran driver Dusty Hueston even took the
track to try one out and was very impressed. It was history
being made and the dawning of a new class for the Mini
Indy club.
Make sure to checkout the new WF class, you won't
disappointed with the drivers or the new Briggs platform.

Thanks For A Great
Weekend!
I would like to thank all our members for a great
weekend, I hope that everyone
enjoyed it as much. I
was told that one of our members actually put tape over
their mouth to avoid getting in trouble, I commend you,
but I wish you would have let me see that, I enjoy a
good laugh too. If it was who I think it was, I
remember the Easter bunny costume and the cow suit, your
great and I mean that.
Also the board is looking into additional fire
extinguishers that may work better than what we have
now.
If there was any other problem this last weekend it
would only be that we still are short judges at the end
of the day and that's really not fair to those classes,
they were their and helping judge the earlier races but,
they are having to race with only three judges and
that's after many calls for help. Let's see if we can
improve and we'll only get better if we all help each
other.
GREAT WEEKEND WITH GREAT PEOPLE!
Thank you all,
Richard Keech
Chairman Of The Board

Important Update
For This Weekend
-We have State Fairgrounds 2006 season parking and
camping passes for sale in the tower.
-All cars will be safety checked before racing at Mini
Indy. Please be sure to arrive and allow adequate time
before sign-ins to get this done. You will be able to
get your Safety Check done on Friday evening this week.
If you have any questions contact Richard Keech, our
Safety Director at
midgetmama2@aol.com.
-Each handler and driver will need to fill out a one
time insurance liability waiver form before they
participate in racing. We will have these available near
the sign-in area. Please allow adequate time to get this
done as part of your sign-in procedure.
-This weekend (April 8th) the race lineup format will be
the same as a typical points race format. For fun, we
will also randomly assign each driver to one of four
color coded teams and keep score. Each team will have
drivers included from Jr. Novice to Heavy 160. IT'S FOR
FUN, and is meant to create some camaraderie among the
kids.
-Every Tuesday evening, unless posted, from
6:00pm-8:00pm is dedicated to novice practice. One of
our trainers will be available to help get our young
drivers learning. Race day mornings from 8:00pm to
8:45pm will be novice training, with emphasis on race
line-ups and procedures. Please have your novice driver
available for this important time.

Novice Day A Huge
Success
Our Novice Day was huge success. It was chilly and
cloudy but, the drivers smiles were warn and sunny. We
had 15 driver's in attendance and we have 20 novices
total the year. We have the best program I've ever seen
at a track.
Thanks, Steve, Larry and everyone who helped. What a
great job!

Spillers Resigns VP Position
Wes decided to resign this past week. We hated to
lose Wes as VP, he's a great person and we appreciate all he's
done but, don't worry he will still be around and involved.
Tiffany Spillers is still our Secretary and she does an
awesome job. They are both great people and we're proud to
have them as part of the Mini Indy family.
The board got together and per the club bylaws filled
the VP vacancy. There were nominations and Jim Boyles,
