Hello,
I just wanted to take a few moments to recognize
and congratulate the novice drivers that
participated in the first race weekend of the
2008 season. The weather was rough, but we had a
great day. Everyone who participated did a
fantastic job, and I couldn't be more proud of
our newest drivers.
Our focus for the morning training session was
knowing the flags and lineups. I encourage each
of you to work with your drivers this week to
reinforce these topics. There are a few items on
my website that you may find helpful. I have
included a link to them below.
Also, another great way to work on lineups is
using a deck of cards. Remove cards A-8
(Juniors) or A-10 (Seniors) from the deck. Ask
your driver to line them up in the correct order
for a double-file lineup. Remember, the odd
numbers go to the inside (1,3,5...) and even
numbers to the outside (2,4,6...).
Next, write down on a piece of paper a random
order for a single file lineup and ask them to
put the cards in order.
Once there is a good understanding of the basic
lineups you can start to work on scenarios where
the lineup changes. Here is what you can do;
First, have your driver lineup the cars for a
double-file start. Tell him/her that the #3 car
has to pull off of the track and remove this car
from the lineup. Have him/her put the remaining
cars in the correct order. In this case, the #4
car moves to the #3 spot, the # 5 car moves to
the #4 spot, the #6 car moves to the #5 spot,
etc. Finally, the #3 comes back out and goes
into the final spot (#8 for Juniors, #10 for
Seniors).
Next, have your drivers line the cars up single
file. Point to two of the cards and give the
signal for switching positions (crossing arms).
Have the driver move both cards to their new
positions. This should be done by moving the
front car towards the top of the track and
sliding the rear car forward on the inside into
their new position.
As a reminder, controlled novice practice has
moved from Tuesday to Thursday nights from
6-8PM. This time is reserved strictly for our
novice drivers. Also, we will have novice
training on race mornings for the next few
weeks. These are mandatory sessions if you plan
on participating that day. Seniors will meet
from 8-8:30AM and Juniors from 8:30-9AM. Junior
novices will need to sign in prior to their
training session.
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have
any questions. I'll see you soon.

I can't tell you
how excited I am about the 2008 Novice Class. I
believe we have 25 new, novice drivers ready to
get the season underway. We are going to have a
ton of fun.
I have a few important
messages concerning novice training;
-
Beginning the week of April 7th
our "Novice Only" practice sessions will move
from Tuesday to Thursday nights between 6-8 PM.
The track is closed to all other classes during
this time. These practices are not required;
however, I encourage you to take advantage of
this time whenever possible.
-
We will have a
mandatory training session for all
novice drivers during our first few events on
April 12th, April 19th, and May 3rd. If you plan
on participating at these events please plan on
coming a little bit early for these training
sessions. Senior Novice training will be from
8-8:30 AM and Junior Novice training will be
from 8:30-9 AM. Junior Novice participants will
need to sign in at the tower prior to their
sessions and Senior Novice participants will
need to sign in immediately following their
session. (This schedule is subject to change. I
will keep everyone updated if any changes
occur.)
Please don't hesitate to
contact me at
david@freemanracing.com if you have
any questions. I look forward to seeing
you at the track.
